After several meetings and presentations, the Independent Schools in British Columbia decided to work together on the BCeSIS project. This led to the creation of a 'steering committee' called the iGroup, of which I am the Chair. It became clear, however, that in addition to the iGroup, a dedicated coordinator was needed to guide the independent schools through the implementation process.
I am happy to announce that Andrew Smit has been hired to fill this position. Andrew brings with him experience in BCeSIS having previously worked with Pacific Academy and been involved in their data conversion process.
Andrew's role as the iGroup coordinator is to be a central contact point for all independent schools that are involved in BCeSIS and to provide a bridge between the iGroup and the BCeSIS project team. Andrew will also be developing a strategic plan, agreeable to both the iGroup and the project team, which will be the basis for the successful implementation of BCeSIS by the independent schools.
More specifically Andrew will be involved in:
1. Developing an Implementation Plan and schedule for all schools that have signed the MOU.
2. Developing an end-user training strategy.
3. Defining a Conversion plan and schedule.
4. Developing a strategy for providing Level 1 support to independent schools.
5. Assessing the current company file configuration and defining a process for any changes.
6. Developing a model for user security.
7. Developing a plan for future support to the iGroup.
In terms of communications, all documents and information will be published to the following website: www.bcesisigroup.ca This will also be the gateway for a user forum where iSchool members will be able to share problems, solutions, and hold general discussion. Furthermore, once Andrew has established business hours and phone numbers, you will able to contact him directly at the following email address: andrewsmit@bcesisigroup.ca This information will be posted to the website.
I am sure you will join the iGroup Executive in welcoming Andrew to the project; his presence will greatly assist us as we strive to get BCeSIS up and running in the independent school system.
